Importing Telnyx Numbers

Here’s how to bring your own phone numbers into our system using SIP trunking.

This process works with any third-party phone service that supports SIP trunking—not just Telnyx.

This guide walks you through setting up your own number so it can be used by your AI assistant for both inbound and outbound calls. If your phone provider supports elastic SIP trunking, you can follow these steps to connect everything. You’ll need to set up a SIP trunk, configure your number to route through it, and then bring that number into the AI platform.

We’re using Telnyx as the example here, but feel free to use any provider that offers elastic SIP trunking.

In short, elastic SIP trunking is how we connect your VoIP system to the public phone network (PSTN), allowing your AI to make and receive calls.


Step-by-Step: Set Up Telnyx SIP Trunk

  1. Log in to your Telnyx account.
    Go to SIP Connections and click “Create SIP Connection.”

  2. Choose FQDN as your trunk type.
    Once the trunk is created, go to the settings and click on the FQDNs section under Authentication and Routing.

    • Add this FQDN: 5t4n6j0wnrl.sip.livekit.cloud

    • Set the DNS record type to SRC

  3. Set up outbound authentication.
    In the same settings area, go to Outbound Calls Authentication.

    • Choose Credentials as your method

    • Set a username and password (you’ll use this later when adding the number to the AI system)

  4. Inbound settings:

    • Allow inbound calls in +E.164 format

    • Choose codecs: G722, G729, and OPUS

    • Pick the region that’s closest to you

  5. Outbound settings:

    • Create a new Outbound Voice Profile (configure it however you need)

    • After creating it, select it in the dropdown for outbound voice profile

  6. Buy or transfer numbers into this trunk.

    • Once the number is in the trunk, grab the following:

      • The raw phone number

      • Your SIP username and password

      • The URI, which is usually sip.telnyx.com


Troubleshooting & Debugging

If you're running into issues with inbound or outbound calls, there's not much we can see or do from our side.

Make sure all the steps above were done correctly. If they were and things still aren't working, your best bet is to reach out to your phone provider’s support team (e.g., Telnyx or Twilio).

We simply store the info you provide to help build the SIP packet. Whether the call goes through or not depends entirely on your phone provider. If something's off—like an unverified account, incorrect number format, or international regulations—you’ll need to resolve it directly with them.
